I am glad the Supreme Court of Canada finally made the right decision. What I would like to know is how to file for this new Tort in the King's Bench Court of Alberta. I can't retain legal counsel anywhere in Alberta or B.C.. My ex and his high priced lawyer made sure that I couldn't, including constitutional law firms. They have all told me, "sorry it's a conflict of interest" or what Alberta law society refers to as lawyer tampering. My case more than meets all 3 criteria.

Hi Pamela,
I read your book after hearing you on CBC regarding coercive control & intimate partner violence and how they can lead to femicide. I had recently escaped another abusive relationship & was a walking zombie of my former self. In psychotherapy I learned more about coercive control and its ability to keep women in their place. This new tort gives abused women validation, and hopefully the courage to stand up for ourselves in a courtroom that used to ignore our stories, diminishing us even more. I am seeking legal counsel with experience in this area not only for my own self-esteem, but for that of my daughters-who were alienated from me due to their father‘s bitterness & control for almost 20 years. I would appreciate any referrals that you might have given your many years of experience in this area. Hearing you interviewed on CBC Radio & reading your book was so inspiring - you gave me hope.

Thank you, Pamela. This landmark Supreme Court of Canada decision marks a significant advancement in access to justice for survivors of intimate partner violence. Your extraordinary advocacy and powerful contribution through And Sometimes They Kill You have helped illuminate this crisis for so many. The inscription you wrote in my copy—“Together, we can end violence against women!”—feels especially powerful today as that shared hope gains legal momentum.
