It did make rape of wives criminal where before they hadn’t been. But in doing so it disappeared the term ‘rape’ from the criminal code and all reports of charges in the media. Rape, which had been one of the major rallying cries of the women’s movement at the time no longer existed in public official language. A deplorable result in my view of an otherwise excellent series of reforms in the criminal law of Canada.
