Admittedly, this election campaign has had some major issues to focus on: tariffs and Donald Trump’s threats to make this country the 51st state, to name just two. I think it’s fair to say that many of us – including me – are giving most of our attention to how our vote can keep Pierre Poilievre out of the PM’s residence. As a result, there are a lot of other important issues that are being ignored by the party leaders and that we’re not calling them out on.
That said, Poilievre grabbed my attention when he announced his plan to get tough on intimate partner violence, especially because he was the first leader of a major political party to say a word about it. It won’t come as much of a surprise to any of you that I was not impressed by what Poilievre had to say.
